July 2015 Favourites <3

Favourites time! I spent such a beautifully-large chunk of July in Malta, so I could just shorten this month’s favourites post to “Malta”, and we could be done. But let’s elaborate a bit more, shall we…

Pictured favourites:

  • Giant corgi plushie – this was an online purchase I made during a bit of a down day, and it was possibly one of the best things I’ve ever bought. LOOK AT HIM. <333
  • Fujifilm Instax wide 210 camera – possibly my favourite purchase of the year. I originally bought this camera for a bridal shower I was organising… but then I quickly became addicted. It’s not as adorable as the little instax cameras, but the photos are so much larger and more beautiful (and the camera was actually a little cheaper than the more “pretty” instax cameras).
  • Me, as a maid of honour, in doll form! – one of the bride’s aunts made dolls of the bride, the groom, and me, and the bride and groom gave me the doll of me as a gift. It’s so beautifully made, and makes me happy and emotional every time I look at it (it’s now on my desk, resting on my Maltese-English dictionaries). <3
  • Benefit Coralista blusher – a classic favourite blusher for me, and I’ve just hit pan on it too, so I’m suddenly all worried about its life-span. I’ve used it for absolute months (probably over a year) on a very regular basis, though, so it’s definitely been more than worth its price tag. I would say it’s the perfect shimmery glowy blusher shade.
  • Benefit Roller Lash mascara – I sneakily pawed through the bottom drawers of a Sephora store in Luxembourg and found one of these (it’s been sold out everywhere for such a long time!), and it’s been a wonderful lifting mascara. I wish it was more volumising, but it’s still a firm favourite.

Other favourites:

  • Malta – have I mentioned that I simply adore my home country?
  • Food at Sammy’s – this restaurant is AMAZING. Go there if you haven’t been there yet. And ask for a tasting menu. Oh. My. They also very easily cater for vegan and vegetarian diets. Although I was like: please feed me anything and everything.
  • Attending a cycling confidence course – I can’t wait to put my bike together (it’s still in a box after shipping it from Malta) and hitting the cycle paths of Luxembourg.
  • A family wedding and being a maid of honour – and organising the bridal shower, of course. It was an overwhelming, absolutely beautiful wedding week. Everything was so much fun and such a great success.
  • Work has (thankfully) been slower over the past month, after the non-stop months of April, May and June, but it’s slowly picking up again, and I’m very excited to be dabbling in some more corporate stuff than usual (although proofreading theses will always be my favourite).
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie – not pictured, because I’ve lent it to my boyfriend’s mother, but this has gone into my favourite books ever list. And Adichie is competing with McEwan (my favourite author) for the favourite author ever position. Ooh er. (Which means that I need to read the rest of her books to make an informed decision.)

Hope everyone had a great July, and that August will be relaxing and beautiful.

July 2014 Favourites <3

July 2014 Favourites

Oh, July. I feel like a completely different person to what I was 7-8 months ago, and July has thoroughly cemented that in. I now work (WHAT?! – I know.) and have successfully completed a million and one projects – with the hallmarks being my Doctor of Laws thesis and my notarial warrant. I’m exhausted, but ridiculously happy and also thoroughly enjoying all these celebrations.

Pictured favourites:

  • Burial Rites by Hannah Kent – a beautiful book. So finely crafted, and such a haunting story.
  • Korres Wild Rose 24-Hour Moisturising Brightening Cream – I bought this (and the other Korres product) from Cyprus (which I visited this month), and they’re both so wonderful. Truly luxurious, high-quality skincare. Really loving them both.
  • Korres Wild Rose Brightening and Line-Smoothing Face & Eyes Serum – a really luxurious serum which you can feel is hydrating your skin. Mmm.
  • LUSH Orange Impériale Body Lotion – This is called ‘Celebrate’ in English-speaking countries, I believe, and it’s a Christmas product which I am absolutely adoring all year ’round. Smells divine, and is a wonderful lotion.
  • Instead Softcup – non-menstruating people, feel free to skip this one. This is an “alternative” menstrual product which I started using properly this month. It’s been absolutely brilliant, and you don’t have to think about your period for 12 whole hours (i.e. the entire day). It also turns out to be heaps cheaper than tampons or sanitary towels.
  • Soap & Glory Peaches and Clean Face Wash – my wondering friend Anna gave this to me on my birthday, and I’ve been using it super often. It’s so easy to use due to its pump, and it smells beautiful and cleans gently. Great stuff.
  • LUSH I Love Juicy Shampoo – This shampooooooo! It’s fresh, cheerful, and gives hair a “deep clean” without making it feel too stripped or squeaky. Lovely scent too.

Hope everyone is having a splendid summer!

July Favourites <3

july favourites

July has been all kinds of awesome. The fact that it’s over means that already a third of my summer is gone, and it feels like summer has barely begun. I’m still waiting for my last uni result (so.slow.) and I haven’t been to a BBQ yet! Madness.

As I usually do, I’m compiling a few of my favourite things from the month.

Pictured (pardon the crappy phone photo, but my camera is packed in a suitcase right now!):

  • Reading, in general. The start of summer meant that I finally had TIME and ENERGY to read books unrelated to my university course. Phew.
  • Sunglasses from SpeckyFourEyes.com which I still adore so.much.

Other wonderful things:

  • A new Facebook page (and web page) for my little proofreading business.
  • The Malta Arts Festival
  • Meals out at really wonderful restaurants
  • My cat. So much.
  • Time spent with lovely friends
  • Braiding my hair and piling it onto the top of my head in a little crown
  • A visit from an English friend
  • Boat trips!
  • Acting
  • Cheese
  • Getting great exam results

So excited about August. It will mainly consist of a lot of proofreading + a lot of travelling + a lot of heat + a lot of work. It’s a little daunting but I’m ready. Have a fantastic August.
